Role Overview
We're hiring a Growth Engineer to build the systems, experiments, and product surfaces that drive acquisition, conversion, activation, and lifecycle performance. This role sits between product, engineering, analytics, and growth. You should be comfortable writing code, connecting tools, instrumenting funnels, launching experiments, and working closely with founders to identify what is actually moving the business.
About Sophia AI
  • Sophia AI is building an AI-native matchmaking experience designed to create more intentional, more personalized introductions.
  • The product combines conversational AI, structured user understanding, and concierge-style workflows to help people form meaningful connections.
  • This is a consumer product where trust, discretion, speed, and taste matter. Growth here is not just about driving traffic. It is about improving the full journey from first visit to qualified application, completed onboarding, stronger member engagement, and better long-term retention.
Role Overview
This role sits between product, engineering, analytics, and growth. You should be comfortable writing code, connecting tools, instrumenting funnels, launching experiments, and working closely with founders to identify what is actually moving the business. A meaningful part of this role will also involve scraping, data extraction, enrichment, and workflow automation. We are looking for someone who is comfortable gathering structured and unstructured data from public web sources, building repeatable scraping workflows, handling messy data, and turning that information into usable internal systems.
What You'll Do
  • Build and optimize acquisition and conversion systems across the website, application flow, onboarding experience, and lifecycle touchpoints.
  • Instrument the funnel end to end, from visitor to application start, interview completion, acceptance, activation, and retained engagement.
  • Launch and analyze growth experiments across landing pages, messaging, application UX, referral loops, onboarding, and reactivation.
  • Build internal tools and automations for lead routing, CRM workflows, lifecycle messaging, segmentation, and reporting.
  • Work with product and design to reduce friction in onboarding and improve completion rates across high-intent flows.
  • Connect analytics, CRM, messaging, attribution, and product data into a clean operating stack.
  • Build and maintain scraping and data collection workflows that support lead generation, research, enrichment, and growth operations.
  • Extract data from public websites, directories, social platforms, and other online sources, then clean and structure that data for internal use.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to selectors, dynamic content, anti-bot protections, pagination, rate limits, and data reliability.
  • Build dashboards that surface the metrics that matter, including conversion by channel, activation rates, CAC efficiency, retention, and experiment results.
  • Partner directly with leadership on growth priorities, rapid tests, and strategic bets.
  • Help create a growth infrastructure that respects privacy, trust, and the emotional nature of the product experience.
What We're Looking For
  • 3–6+ years of experience in growth engineering, product engineering, full-stack engineering, or technical growth roles.
  • Strong ability to ship quickly across product, web, analytics, and automation systems.
  • Experience building and optimizing conversion funnels for consumer or marketplace products.
  • Strong comfort with web scraping, browser automation, data extraction, and enrichment workflows.
  • Experience working with tools and approaches such as Python, JavaScript or TypeScript, Playwright, Puppeteer, BeautifulSoup, Selenium, APIs, and structured data pipelines.
  • Ability to work with messy or incomplete data and turn it into clean, usable operational inputs.
  • Comfort handling practical scraping challenges such as changing page structures, retries, throttling, and workflow maintenance.
  • Experience with analytics and growth tooling such as GA4, PostHog, Segment, Mixpanel, HubSpot, Braze, Customer.io, Zapier, Make, or similar tools.
  • Strong grasp of experimentation, event design, attribution, and funnel analysis.
  • Ability to move between strategy and execution without a lot of overhead.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with founders and cross-functional teams.
Nice to Have
  • Experience with consumer subscription, marketplace, dating, social, or high-consideration products.
  • Experience with SMS, voice, conversational products, or AI-assisted workflows.
  • Experience improving onboarding completion, lifecycle activation, or referral performance.
  • Familiarity with trust and safety, user quality scoring, or identity and verification flows.
  • Experience building large-scale scraping or enrichment pipelines for business operations, growth, or lead generation.
  • Strong product instincts for high-touch user experiences where brand and UX directly affect conversion.
Engagement
  • Full-time or contract-to-hire.
  • Location flexible / remote possible.
